Procedures to Apply as a Visiting Scholar in

Thank you for your interest to become a Visiting Scholar in DEIL.

A visiting scholar is a member of the UIUC academic community. Visiting scholars are not seeking a UIUC degree. Typically, they already hold an advanced degree and have worked in our field for some years.

All applications for Visiting Scholar status will be reviewed by the DEIL faculty. Among other basic qualifications, at least one faculty member in DEIL must agree to be your primary contact while you are here.
Please send us the following information. You can send it in electronic form (e.g. in an email or email attachment), by fax or by post.

1. Your current c.v.

2. A statement of the time period you wish to be here: please state your arrival date and your departure date. Please be as precise as possible, so that we can consult our faculty schedules.

3. A statement of your objectives while here at DEIL -- what areas do you wish to study? Are there particular classes you wish to attend? (As a visiting scholar, you can attend classes at no charge, provided that space is available in the classes.) Do you wish to conduct research? If so, on what research questions? Do you wish to do research in the extensive UIUC Library?

4. Please explain how you will fund your stay here. Visiting Scholars are self-funded. DEIL is only able to provide a UIUC network id (for e-mail and web access), library privileges and help with getting a study carrel in the library. Transportation, living expenses and insurance are the Visiting Scholar's responsibility.
