Library
DEIL maintains an ESL Curriculum Library consisting of some 2,650
book titles. It is augmented by a videotape collection in addition
to subscriptions to several current journals. As one of the largest
ESL instructional materials centers, this collection has been computerized
so as to make it available to the World Wide Web. In addition, DEIL
students have access to the University
of Illinois Library system network, the 3rd largest university
library in the U.S. and 12th largest in the world.
Classroom
Research Lab (FLB G52)
The Classroom Research Lab (located in FLB G52) is a state of the
art research facility that enables classroom researchers to study
small group work in a networked classroom. The facilities include
16 networked computer stations arranged in 4 “pods”
of four students each. In addition, the instructor has a separate
computer station which is connected to a ceiling-mounted LCD projector
for Powerpoint presentations. This computer is also equipped with
video and audio facilities. Finally, the room is equipped with six
permanently installed digital video cameras. These cameras enable
researchers to record whole class and/or small group interactions
at each pod, as well as Powerpoint and other presentations at the
front of the class. A seventh pedagogical camera is available for
use by the instructor to record students’ presentations as
a means of providing them with empirically-based feedback on their
performance. For further information, see the Photos and Technical
Specifications.
Computer Support
DEIL students, staff and faculty have access to the wide variety
of technology support services on campus,
including specific resources for
learning and instruction such as web support, technology-equipped
classrooms, IT workshops and department-specific assistance for
using technology in classes. |
